  • Proximity to São Paulo: If you're based in São Paulo and have only a few days, Ilhabela is the better choice due to its closer proximity.
  • Traveling Between São Paulo and Rio: If you plan to drive between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, choosing between the two islands can be more challenging. Ilhabela allows you to bring your car onto the island, which offers convenience. It also boasts better infrastructure, including good internet and hospital services, making it a great option if you need to work while traveling. For the best experience in Ilhabela, consider staying near the Vila if you want to be near the nightlife with bars and restaurants, and want to be close to where tours start. This area is also convenient if you're without a car. Alternatively, staying near the ferry is a good option for easy access to public transportation, as the bus station here connects to both the north and south of the island. If you have a car, consider staying in the south of the island, where numerous beaches and waterfalls are nearby, but with a car, any location on the island is suitable.
