Bonito is a great destination year-round. The rainy season runs from December to March, characterized by hot temperatures and lush greenery, with fuller rivers and waterfalls. However, heavy rains can sometimes lead to trip cancellations and reduced visibility in the rivers. From May to August, the dry season offers cleaner rivers and less chance of rain. Temperatures drop to around 25°C, which may be either a pleasant change or less comfortable, especially if you plan to spend long hours in the water. The months between these seasons represent a transitional period, offering a mix of conditions from both extremes. The best time to visit is often from August to September, which coincides with the optimal time for wildlife viewing in the Southern Pantanal. Additionally, tour prices are lower during the off-season (they change the prices on specific dates), from May to September, making this a more economical time to visit.

How to Get There

Bonito has its own small airport, which is the most convenient option to get there. If combined with the Southern Pantanal, you can usually include the transfer in the tour or drive from the Pantanal if you have your own car. Alternatively, you can arrive in Campo Grande and drive from there.

We recommend staying 3 to 5 days. 3 is ideal if you don't have so much time and just want to see the highlights. But you can also find different activities for each day for 5 days if you really enjoy the type of ecotourism that Bonito offers.

Getting Around

We strongly recommend renting a car to get around. The tours don't include transportation and can be quite far away. You will drive some dirt roads, but they are usually not too bad.
