Jericoacoara

Jericoacoara is a small paradise. It used to be a fishing village in an idyllic location and even though it grew a lot since then, it kept its unique charm. Everything in this village is built on sand and the only street lights come from the cute restaurants and bars, which will give you vacation vibes like no other place. It's also one of the few places in Brazil where you can see a sunset over the ocean, and every evening, people gather at the dune to watch the sunset, followed by capoeira performances on the beach and caipirinha drinks at night. During the day you can relax in lagoons that look like the Caribbean, explore the dune landscape, or do a tour to see seahorses in the mangroves. It's also a paradise for kitesurfers. All in all, Jericoacoara is one of the best places in Brazil to simply relax, lay back, and enjoy life.

Discover Jericoacoara, a charming village in Brazil known for its sandy streets, vibrant sunsets, and excellent kitesurfing. Ideal for those seeking relaxation and adventure.

Jericoacoara can be visited year-round and it's always hot there. In the first half of the year you have more rainfall and thus fuller lagoons. You will still find plenty of sunny days. In the second half of the year it is drier, you will have more chance of sunnier days which is better for all activities but the lagoons will be emptier. August is best for windsurfing.

How to Get There

You can reach Jericoacoara by flying to either Fortaleza Airport (FOR) or Jericoacoara Airport (JJD), with the latter being the fastest option (but usually more expensive and with fewer flights). From Fortaleza, there are many companies offering affordable transfers to Jeri. Some transfers even include visits to attractions along the way, which can be a good option if you're short on time. In theory, you can also rent a car and drive to Jijoca and leave it there, but it's not worth it just for the transfer since you won't use the car in the village.

If you're coming from Lençóis Maranhenses, we recommend booking a private or shared transfer to Jericoacoara, which is about a 7-hour drive. Accommodations usually help with finding transfers. It's not cheap, but most of the time it's still cheaper than renting a car in Lençóis and leaving it in Jijoca.

We recommend spending at least 3 days in Jericoacoara. This gives you time to do the main tours in Jeri — the tours to the east and west side — and an extra day to simply relax at the beach. Of course, you can easily stay longer to enjoy the warm water, go kitesurfing, and just enjoy life.
