Jalapão

Jalapão is a national park in the state of Tocantins, Brazil. While still relatively unknown to international tourists, it has grown increasingly popular among Brazilians in recent years—and for good reason. The park features several remarkable and unique attractions, including fervedouras (natural pools fed by underground rivers) where the water pressure prevents you from sinking—a truly unique swimming experience. You'll also find some of the most beatiful waterfalls, crystal-clear lagoons, impressive canyons, sand dunes surrounded by savannah with one of the most beatiful sunsets in Brazil.

The main drawback of visiting Jalapão is the considerable time spent in vehicles navigating rough roads between distant attractions. Fortunately, the scenic views make these journeys enjoyable, with opportunities to spot wildlife along the way. During peak season, some locations can become crowded, occasionally resulting in wait times that slightly diminish the experience. Nevertheless, Jalapão remains one of Brazil's hidden treasures worth discovering.

Explore Jalapão, a hidden gem in Tocantins, Brazil, offering unique natural pools, stunning waterfalls, and breathtaking sand dunes. Perfect for adventurers and nature enthusiasts.

The best time to visit Jalapão is from May to September during the dry season. This period offers pleasant climate, vibrant green vegetation (especially May to July), and waterfalls with good water flow. You'll enjoy clear skies and stunning sunsets throughout. From August to September, the air becomes drier and less comfortable, with vegetation losing some of its lushness. However, these months bring even more spectacular sunsets. During the rainy season (October to April), temperatures are slightly cooler with warmer nights, but roads can become muddy and more difficult to navigate. Despite the rain, sunshine is still frequent, and activities aren't completely disrupted. Try to avoid going on national holidays or school holidays. The number of people who can go to Fervedouras and other attractions is limited and you can have high waiting times during peak season.

We recommend 4-6 days to fully experience Jalapão's natural wonders. Most tour operators offer 5-day packages, which provide a good balance of activities and travel time. While shorter visits are possible, we don't recommend them as the distances between attractions are considerable, and Jalapão has so much natural beauty to discover.

Where to Stay

We very much recommend booking a guided tour that will already include all accomodations. Additionally, depending on the arrival and departure times of your flight we recommend staying in Palmas for a night before or after your tour.

Navigation in Jalapão requires traversing dirt roads that can be in rough condition. A 4x4 vehicle is absolutely essential! Unless you're experienced with challenging off-road driving, we strongly recommend booking a guided tour. There you will have experienced drivers, who will take you to all the highlights.ł
