Manaus & Surroundings

Manaus is the main entry point for exploring the Brazilian Amazon. During your visit, you might witness powerful thunderstorms and hear the diverse sounds of wildlife. While animal sightings can be less frequent than in the Pantanal due to the dense forest, the overall experience of being in this remarkable ecosystem is a once in a lifetime experience. Beyond the rainforest, Manaus itself has interesting attractions, including the famous meeting of the rivers, where two differently colored rivers flow side by side without mixing for several kilometers.

Explore Manaus, the gateway to the Amazon rainforest, where you can experience vibrant wildlife, the meeting of the rivers, and rich cultural attractions.

The Amazon can be visited year-round, with each season offering unique experiences due to varying water levels and rainfall patterns. From June to November, lower rainfall allows for more forest walks and beach visibility, while December to May brings higher water levels, enabling different types of boat trips and flooding parts of the forest. Also be prepared for rain and intense heat during this time.

How to Get There
Booking.com

It is best to arrive in Manaus by plane. From there transport to Jungle Lodges is usually included in the tour you book and mostly by boat. Some farther away lodges like the Uakari Lodge require even an additional flight.

How Long to Stay

We recommend spending around 2-3 days in Manaus and an additional 3-6 days for some Jungle Tour in the surrounding area.

Where to Stay

In Manaus, we suggest staying near the main square, Largo de São Sebastião, where you'll find plenty of restaurants and bars.

For jungle experiences, there are many options nearby, including jungle lodges, boat cruises, and camping tours. We personally tried a wilderness tour where we camped in the jungle. While we can't recommend a specific lodge, we suggest deciding on the type of experience you want and then searching on Google or TripAdvisor for options.

Getting Around

Inside Manaus we recommend Uber or 99 to get around. Outside of Manaus you will probably use the Lodges transportation.
